Radar evaluation possibility analysis of RCS (Radar Cross Section) average value for pin-point targets by surveillance radars
Abstract
Target recognition is one of the important problems of surveillance radars while in operation as it enables to classify the targets, to evaluate their hypothetical intentions and to predict air activity development. Introduction of modern high performance information and computation systems with small-sized large storage space significantly extend possibilities of radar equipment developers in regard to implementation of "intellectual" methods for information processing in real time. A number of domestic and foreign scientific works are known where much attention is given to theoretical research with the computer-aided processing of the obtained radar characteristics of the airborne objects of rather irregular shape based on assessment of the target size and on the analysis of spectral characteristics in the terms of signature analysis. The radar evaluation methods and algorithms of average value for pin-point targets are developed in this work on the basis of the radar equation in an open space for the surveillance radars that will enable to enhance the target recognition quality. Features and the device block diagram to implement the specified algorithms are examined. The eficiency evaluation of the suggested method through statistical analysis is carried out. It is indicated that the suggested method enables to estimate rather precisely the RCS average value of targets and the distributed objects with the statistical data set.
